English poetry, animals: Cat, Hound and Hen, D.J. Bullen

Hound
For I am a straying hound
You do insist I be impound
But I 'scape
From your freedom rape
In cities that i'm found

Hen
For I am a battery hen
A caged tower is my only den
My pecker is my living
An egg is my giving
A slave for the scrambling men.

Cat
For I am a scowling cat
I splay 'pon the prickly mat
And wait for my supper
From the grey haired mother
The one who feeds me her drowsy chat.

N.B. There's an interesting humorous interplay between judge and these poems about animals.
